Commission & Tip Visibility for Pay Users
We redesigned the admin panel experience to display the commission rate and tip breakdown, aiming to encourage Pay terminal usage and improve payment reconciliation for restaurant owners.
Research
-
Owners had trouble locating key information.
-
The Summary section didn’t display tips or commissions.
-
Not seeing the commission rate was more problematic than missing tip info.
We interviewed 8 users to understand how they navigated the admin panel and used payment data.
We found that:
Encouraging Pay Terminal Adoption Through the Admin Panel
One of the main challenges for restaurant owners was reconciling payment amounts and understanding how commissions and tips were applied in their reports.
This created friction and limited the use of the Pay terminal.
Teams involved: Product, Engineering, Sales, Onboarding, Support, Marketing.

We added a commission rate widget in the Summary section.
-
Users could click it to access detailed info in the Deposits section.
-
There, we designed a card showing:
-
Current rate and level
-
Target rate based on usage
-
Tip breakdown and commission history
